This option enables the User to select different editing functions as required, they are:

Select Select - enables the User to select items in the diagram.

Marquee Marquee - there are three options here:

  • Marquee Objects Objects - this allows the User to drag-select a selection rectangle that will select the main figures in the diagram (this is the default marquee type performed when the button it displayed initially).
  • Marquee Connections Connections - this allows the User to drag-select a selection rectangle that will select connections in the diagram.
  • Marquee Objects AND Connections Both - this allows the User to drag-select a selection rectangle that will select both connections and figures in the diagram.

Link Link - enables the User to add a link between items in the diagram. This connects an outcome to the next activity. The properties on the link can instruct the link to be followed by the Business Process Runtime Engine with the result displayed to the user immediately if possible, or just added to the users Task List. There are three further options for adding a link:

  • Reference Reference - this allows the User to add a reference link to the diagram. This is an 'information only' link. The link will not be processed by the Business Process Runtime Engine.
  • Suspend Suspend - this allows the User to suspend a link on the diagram. This is a 'loopback' link to the activity. If this link is followed, the activity will not be marked as completed, and the activity will remain on the Users Task List.
  • Internal Link Internal Link - this allows the User to add an internal link to the diagram. This is a link that will not be processed by the Business Process Runtime Engine, and is instead used by the Activity itself to determine what next action should be taken. This is used, for example, where an Activity will spawn off new Business Process Instances to multiple users.

Set Default Start Activity Set Default Start Activity - enables the User to set the default start activity in the diagram. If the Business Process is being initially launched, this specifies the default Activity that the Business Process should begin at.

Add a Swimlane Add a Swimlane - enables the User to add a swimlane to the diagram. This allows the User to split up the Business Process into different areas of responsibility, for example, you could add different lanes for a Customer, a Salesperson, and an Administrator and show the different Activities assigned to each in different Swim Lanes.
